Corporate ICT Governance

Making it Real...

Corporate Governance has been on the agenda at a conceptual level for IT and Business for many years. Corporate governance aims to:

  • align the actions of the individual parts of an organisation toward aggregate mutual benefit
  • provide the means by which each individual part of the organisation can trust that the other parts each make their contribution to the mutual benefit of the organisation and that none gain unfairly at the expense of others
  • provide a means by which information can quickly flow between the various stakeholders to ensure that the changing nature of both the stakeholder needs and desires and the environment in which the organisation operates get effectively factored into decision processes

Given the above definition of Governance, it is clear that best practice frameworks such as ITIL, PRINCE2, MSP have a lot to offer in providing the required work practices.  Complemented by the Australian ICT Corporate Governance Standard (A8015) and a measurement framework such as COBIT, a powerful model can be created to make the concept of governance a reality.

With the advent of compliance requirements such as Sarbanes-Oxley, Clerp 9 and various regulatory bodies, the time has come for organisations to turn this concept into a reality.
