IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL)
Best Practices for IT Service Management
On face value, the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) is a set of books describing IT management processes and practices. However, the potential value of ITIL and its impact on an IT organisation is far reaching. These best practices have been collated from the practices of IT shops around the world. As such, the books contain the collective wisdom of many mature IT Management organisations.
The "Infrastructure" in ITIL includes all hardware, software, processes, tools and even roles used in the delivery of IT Services to the business. ITIL is a whole of IT resource. It is not surprising then that ITIL also contains books describing best practices for Application Management, ICT Infrastructure Management, Security Management and even Business-IT Alignment (Business Perspective book).
Together, these best practices represent a holistic approach to management of IT. When complemented with a Project Management framework such as PRINCE2® or PMBOK an IT organisation can derive a complete framework for maturing toward best practice and delivering better value for the business.
Globally, IT organisations are currently focused on using ITIL to implement and improving IT Support and Delivery processes. We are working on many implementation projects with our clients and we know that implementation of these best practices is a significant organisational change; not to be entered into lightly. Our approach is to use our experience, proven implementation framework and intellectual property to ensure that your improvement initiatives are successful and that our client's main focus can be on the "why" and the "what". We can assist you with the "how".
All our customers are looking forward to the evolution of ITIL 3.0 in the coming year as the best practices grow to address the full service life-cycle and Business Service Management. We will keep you abreast of developments. Watch this space...
